Brian Haberlin and David Hine, the creative team behind the recently-launched Sonata miniseries from Image, are already eyeing their next project together. The publisher announced today that the pair would reteam for a new ongoing series called The Marked, which follows a group of people who are tattooed with ancient glyphs that imbue them with magical abilities, which they must use to protect the world from evil — and, when one among them creates a dangerous new hybrid form of magic, from each other. Sonata‘s colorist, Geirrod Van Dyke, will also return for The Marked.
Writer David Hine has done work for nearly all the major US publishers. He’s perhaps best known as the co-creator of Spider-Man Noir, and for a thirty-plus-issue run of Spawn, which he co-wrote with artist Haberlin. Haberlin is a co-creator of Witchblade, and co-founder of Avalon Studios. While The Marked is a standalone series, Haberlin did tease in a release that characters from his previous work may appear down the line:
